I recently had the pleasure of capturing Laura Lee and Caleb’s Charleston engagement photos! On a perfect summer day, albeit a warm one, we explored the beautiful streets of downtown Charleston together. The city’s historic charm provided the perfect backdrop for these special photos.

Their Love Story

Laura Lee and Caleb’s love story begins with Bumble! Laura Lee made the first move and suggested that Caleb show her around his hometown of Summerville, and he took her up on the idea.

For their first date, the couple chose a quintessential Charleston experience: viewing the Christmas lights on James Island. They drove through the fun displays and took a romantic stroll through the park. They ended up talking for hours over Cookout milkshakes to end the night.

When it came time to pop the question, Caleb surprised Laura Lee on Saint Patrick’s Day in her hometown. While Laura Lee and her friends were preparing for dinner, one friend slipped her a note from Caleb inviting her to join him on the patio. She found him waiting with roses and champagne. Unbeknownst to Laura Lee, friends were discretely capturing the moment on camera, while family and additional friends watched from inside, adding to the surprise.

Personally, I was delighted to photograph Laura Lee again! I captured her senior photos at GCSU before her move to Charleston to pursue her nursing career. It’s always a pleasure to document multiple milestones in my clients’ lives.

Charleston’s diverse locations cater to every couple’s style, whether you prefer a leisurely stroll through a park or a more urban setting at your favorite local restaurant or bar. 

Here are some of my favorite areas for engagement shoots, though I’m always excited to explore new locations with couples!

Rainbow Row

Rainbow Row is an iconic stretch of colorful Georgian row houses along East Bay Street offers a vibrant and uniquely Charleston backdrop. The pastel hues provide a cheerful, romantic vibe and create stunning contrasts in photos. It’s perfect for couples who want a classic Charleston look.

Folly Beach

For couples who love a relaxed, coastal vibe, Folly Beach is ideal. With its expansive shoreline, picturesque pier, and laid-back atmosphere, it offers a variety of settings. The golden hour light here is simply magical for photos.

Charleston Harbor

The harbor area provides a mix of nautical charm and historic significance. With views of Fort Sumter, palmetto trees, and sailboats dotting the water, the Charleston Harbor has tons of backdrop options to choose from. 

French Quarter

Steeped in history, the French Quarter boasts narrow cobblestone streets, historic buildings, and hidden alleyways. It’s perfect for couples seeking a romantic, old-world feel in their photos. The wrought-iron balconies and gas lanterns add a touch of elegance to every shot.

The Battery & White Point Garden 

This area combines antebellum architecture with waterfront views and a lush park setting. The Battery‘s historic mansions provide a stately backdrop, while White Point Garden offers oak-lined paths and harbor views. It’s ideal for couples who want to showcase Charleston’s history and natural beauty in one location.
